Introduction to light frequency equation

Light frequency equation deals with three parameters that is the velocity of light usually denoted as ‘c’  ,and the frequency that is number of cycles per second  usually denoted as  ‘f’ and the wavelength  usually denoted as ‘ λ’(lambda),where one of them is constant i.e velocity of light

In light frequency equation ,it shows the relation between the frequency of light and the wavelength of a wave as these are inversely proportional to each other i.e in light frequency equation , as the frequency increases the wavelength of the wave decreases and vice verse  and these two are related by a constant that is the velocity of light which is a constant but it is dependent on the medium i.e whether the medium is air or glass etc  because velocity of light is given as 1/[sq rt(µϵ)],here as the medium changes the permittivity(ϵ)   changes which changes the velocity of light

And the velocity of light in free air is 3*108m/sec for light frequency equation  where the permeability (µ) value is 4*π*10-7H/m and permittivity(ϵ)  is 8.854*10-12 F/m

The light frequency equation is given as f=(c/ λ).

The light frequency equation is given as f=(c/ λ).

Light frequency  equation is helpful  in calculating the unknown parameters when one of them is known, since the velocity of light is constant for a fixed medium .One should  remember that velocity of light changes  only  with the change in medium  else it remains constant

Here are some of the examples to know the importance of  light frequency equation

1.       Calculate the frequency of the wave if the wavelength is given as                      4.25*10-8m(hint:use light frequency equation)

2.       Calculate the wavelength of the wave if the frequency is given as                      10GHz(hint:use light frequency equation)

*If medium not given consider the medium as free space and take the velocity of light  for light frequency equation as given above.
