Kinds of Compounds

The elements present in d-block of the modern periodic table are called transition elements. The elements from scandium to zinc occurring in the fourth period are important in modern chemistry. the complex and organo-metallic compounds by acceptiongelectron from negative ions. The bond that is formed between the metal-ion of the transition element and negative ions or neutral atoms of transition elements occupying the centres of the complex compounds are linked by coordinate bonds.
Different Kinds of Compounds:

Organo-metalic compounds:

Organo-metalic compounds are of s- and p-blocks while amongst d- and f-blocks tetracarbonyl nickel was synthesised. But amongst the mordern organo-metalic compounds ferrocene was synthesised. The knd of structure of ferrocene and understanding regarding its stability is based upon the concept of pi bonds present in carbocyclic ring. By using benzene and its derivatives so many organo-metalic compounds are synthesised and they forms a main group called metallocene.

On the basis of x-ray and infrared spectrum it is proved that ferrocene possesses sandwich structure. The second main group of metal carbonyl compounds came into existence and are prepared from elements of d-block and carbon monoxide ligand. These compounds posses solid state at ordinary temperature and pressure.

Complex compounds:

Complex compounds present in nature play important roles in biological system. They are specially needed in may chemical relations occurring in the plants and animals. The kind of complex compound chlorophyll is responsible for the green color of leaves of plants. The red colour complex compound present in animal blood is due to haemoglobin.

Chlorophyll is a kind of complex compound of magnesium while hemoglobin is a complex compound of iron. The molecular of both these complex compounds are very large. They have similar kind of molecular structure.

Applications of Complex Compounds:

In quantitative and qualitative chemical analysis by classical methods and scientific instrumental methods for the identification of unknown chemicals as in titration methods kind of complex compounds are used.

The familiar colour reactions given by metal-ions and different ligands as a result of formation of co-ordination coloured entities play the important part. Under controlled kind of experimental conditions, most of these reactions are highly specific and sensitive.
